Don’t Feel Guilty If…You Need Some Time Off

by Hollaback on May 29, 2011 · 12 comments

Here at Hollaback, we firmly believe in quality over quantity when it comes to blogging. We encourage bloggers to write one fabulous post per week as opposed to three mediocre posts per day.

We also believe that blogging shouldn’t be a chore or something that gets in the way of living your life. If you’re always thinking about blogging about your life, you’re not really living your life, and that doesn’t sit well with us.

And right now, we do not have the time to live our lives and give Hollaback the attention it needs to provide the kind of quality posts we want to live here on the blog.

And the more time we spend blogging about blogging, the less time we’re spending blogging, and, considering that’s our main form of research, that means we really can’t provide the quality posts you deserve.

So in the spirit of practicing what we preach, and in the the great tradition of many bloggers before us, we’re taking a break. We just need a little summer vacation. Just like any summer vacation, we need to go off and learn new things, have summer flings (with our own blogs), and come back in the fall, missing our old friends and looking a little taller/tanner/older/wiser…maybe even with a new look.

HAGS, LYLAS, etc. etc. We’ll see you in the fall!

I absolutley agree with this and often wonder if those 3x a day bloggers feel like their whole life is about blogging or having to always capture every moment.

I guess its different for everyone but I take vacations all the time!

My blog is a true reflection of my life and sometimes blogging is at the top of the list and ill have 2 posts a day for a little stretch and then there are times where things are so overwhelming that blogging is the last thing I can or want to do.

The best bloggers in my opinion are the ones that ride the waves :)

Have a great “vacation” girls!

I know one blogger who sometimes posts 3x a day because there’s just so much she can talk about (she’s out and about London and the world). She’s witty, has a sense of humor and knows what she’s talking about. Her content are not at all rubbish. But that’s because her blog is an outlet of her job and who she is. However, not all bloggers are Susie Lau. For us, it’s better to have one quality post a week instead of crappy ones daily. Enjoy the ‘vacation’!

What a timely post–I’ve been on a blogging hiatus for about two weeks now and so appreciated reading your thoughts on taking a break. Enjoy your time away from Hollaback, but please know that I–and so many other readers–truly value and enjoy the Hollaback posts and look forward to their return…whenever that may be!

Agree in 100% – anyway it’s sometimes hard to write even this one a week.

Great point! I always hate to throw up crap, but feel guilty for disappearing. But blogs are about real life, and stuff comes up.

Good for you, even though I’ll miss you particularly the grammar and writing tips. I just took a two month break from my own blog and reading blogs in general. It felt great to take a break and it felt great to post again and visit the old familiar blogs. As much as we may not all agree with all of what’s said and how it’s said, I do love this community and the fact that I can connect with health-minded strangers from across the world.

Have a great summer and look forward to whatever is next from Hollaback.

can we please discuss when bloggers enter (and win) other bloggers’ giveaways. TACKY! come on, you get enough free stuff.

Too bad… I just discovered your blog!

In all seriousness though, good for you. Everyone gets to take care of themselves. It’s good for your health, mental sanity, and ultimately productivity. Have a great summer, y’all!

Sure. We all need some break at some point to get our mind refreshed. Happy Summer!

The reason I quit my old blog was because blogging felt like a chore…. It felt so constrained. I ended up shunning the whole community… which is why I’m just now seeing this post.

I’m glad to be back though & glad to feel proud of my new blog :)
